I've been working on some different looks for Jackal lately, and I decided to try a more cartoon-based picture. This one was refreshing because I think it's the least amount of time I've ever had to spend on lineart now that I use Illustrator for that. Yes, Illustrator is the ULTIMATE LINEART TOOL! Use it....
I just use the pen tool and change the thickness of lines for different things in the picture (like the outline of big parts---head and body---is usually the thickest line). It's kinda hard to teach the pen tool, but there are some really nifty tutorials here on DA that can help with that. Just use the search bar and type in "adobe illustrator tutorial" or "pen tool tutorials." That should help.
Thanks for the comments and I'm happy you like the picture!

Thank you! I'm glad you like it! If your'e familiar with some of the more advanced photoshop techniques (like layer masks and pen tool), this can be easily achieved.

Woo! Art from you! How's life? Anyway, I like his design; you're expressions are always so much fun.
I got Photoshop 6 right before 7 came out (didn't know about it at the time) so I've made do with that for the past few years. I've seen Illustrator's features though and I often wish I could have gotten it instead, but, of course, I didn't know about it at the time either. Indeed, part of the reason I want it is for the lineart...
the style of this is really nice and very professional looking, as I've told you on the phone before. I really can see this character evolving into a storybook and/or a cartoon somewhere in the future . It's really fortunate that you can draw him in many styles, that will definetly help your career move forward.

I had a pocket full of dreams But I gave them all to you...
There are a lot of themes that run through the stock gallery many people have similar ideas but they pull them off in different ways. In this series of newsletters we will look at similar ideas but different outcomes.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
