Alright, my hands are up. I'm guilty. This is the first time in a couple of weeks I've had time to sit, breathe, and draw. Today, I don't work either of my jobs (yay!), so I devoted some time to drawing something that wasn't for a commission or a job, something that was just for fun. The result is this.
I've had an image like this in my head for a long time. When I have had a little bit of time to sketch in my sketchbook, I've been drawing a lot of Zero Suit Samus doodles, and I had a neat concept for Mother Brain laid out in an old sketch - for the Infendo Atari Box Art contest, in fact (ultimately chose Wii Fit over the messy Metroid sketch, and if you remember, I won!).
Mother Brain is evil, not only to kill in various Metroid games, but also to draw. The brain part alone took a good three-fourths of the sketching time, and vectoring those lines was not so fun. But I think it came out really nicely!
I hope you guys enjoy! Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
Adobe Illustrator CS, probably 8 hours total.

Awesome! Great style and clean, sleek colouring, as usual. Really digging the colour composition in this one especially, actually. I love the blend of purples, reds and pinks for the background and Mother Brain. Add a great intensity to the picture and helps make Samus stand out even more.
Metroid actually upsets me. I missed most of the games as a kid, and now I just don't have the funds to buy anything new. I managed to play a good hour's worth of Super Metroid though. I'm so sad I don't have that around anymore. It was a lot of fun...even though I sucked at it. xD
Thank you! I had originally had a different color scheme in mind before moving into the vector stage...something rainbowy but dark. Ultimately, it didn't work out, but I'm happy with what I ended up with. ;D
Aside from the very first game (which I think is terrible and cheaply, frustratingly hard), every single game in the Metroid franchise is fantastic. Super Metroid is the best, still standing as one of the best games of all time in my opinion. If you have a Wii, you can download it onto your system from the Virtual Console for pretty cheap. And if you have a GameBoy Advance or a DS, you can buy Metroid Zero Mission (remake of the original) and Metroid Fusion for only $10 each at GameStop, and I wholly recommend them.

Very cool. Though it sounds like it was a pain, your Mother Brain turned out really cool looking.

I wish they would make a game called Professor Layton and the Curious Case of Benjamin Button so I could finally find out why they decided to make that movie so long and boring.
