Ladies and Gentlemen. I give you my first foray into the world of comedy. Above, you see concept art for the Duncan family, a family of stereotypical gamers. Lets get acquainted with them, shall we?
Ridley Duncan Gamer type: "Classic" gamer. Age: 16 Namesake: Ridley, dragon-like leader of the space pirates in the "Metroid" game series. Perhaps the most sane of the group, Ridley is an unapologetic fanboy for his favorite gaming company, Fundo. He follows all of the franchises he's been playing since he was old enough to pick up a controller, and has no problem defending even the worst titles in each series. You'd be hard-pressed to get him to truly enjoy the experience that the other consoles offer, only because of his bias. Despite his unwavering devotion to all things Fundo and his inability to keep his opinion in check, Ridley means well, and only wants the rest of the world to see what he sees in his beloved, colorful, classic adventures.
Gwen Duncan Gamer Type: "Music" gamer. Age: 16 Namesake: Gwen Stefani, lead singer of pop-rock band "No Doubt," whose songs have appeared in both Rock Band and Guitar Hero on numerous occasions. Gwen, Ridley's twin sister, is a girl with lots of attitude, and lots of rhythm and finger dexterity. She partakes in the "plastic instrument revolution" that has swept the nation, nay, the world. Gwen is one of the best music gamers around; she can get a perfect score in just about every single song available in every single version of every single music game with each of the various instruments. She even has a fake band, "Pain Lemon," with whom she practices perfecting songs in the garage as often as possible. Her often nonchalant, even grumpy personality is off-putting to most, but once you get to know her...well, she's still grumpy.
Denise Duncan Gamer Type: "Casual" gamer. Age: None of your business. Namesake: Denise Kaigler, Nintendo of America's Vice President of Corporate Affairs. Denise used to be just like the rest of us. Big hair and high heels in the 80s, an obsession with "rad" dance movies and over-synthesized pop music. Then she got married, had kids and turned into a nervous wreck. Between her oldest daughter (not pictured here, still haven't designed her yet), her twins, and her youngest, she hasn't had much time for herself over the past twenty years. But then, something amazing happened. A product so revolutionary, so unique, so...casual-friendly came along and took all of her problems away. That's right, kids, Bii Fit, the hit game/peripheral bundle that teaches you the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Denise took an immediate liking to spending hours a day improving her posture, learning yoga moves, and honing those buns, and all of her problems melted away. Or rather, so we're told to believe. In actuality, Denise has done a pretty good job of bottling it all up, and her always-happy demeanor is mostly on the outside. Believe me, the moment you try to snatch away the Bii Fit board, you'll taste the wrath of Denise's dark side.
Patrick "Pac" Duncan Gamer Type: "Arcade" gamer. Age: 40-something. Namesake: His nickname is an obvious reference to Pac Man, one of arcade gaming's longest-lasting, most memorable icons. Pac Duncan had it all in the 80s. A smoking-hot, dancing queen girlfriend. An awesome hair-do. A red Thriller jacket. And the high score in every game cabinet at his local arcade. But of course, when he and Denise started pumping out the kids, his love for gaming took a backseat to raising a family, or at least that's what he wanted his wife to think. For years, Pac had kept his collection of old, classic arcade cabinets in the basement, going down to play them at 3 AM when everyone else in the house was asleep, trying desperately to better his awesome joysticking/button-mashing skills. It wasn't until all of his children (save for the oldest) showed some interest in gaming that he finally came out of the not-so-proverbial closet and started to game out in the open again. Of course, he could never play any of the games his kids were playing: the joystick is waaaaay too small!
Marc Duncan Gamer Type: "Hardcore" gamer. Age: 9 Namesake: Marcus Fenix, main character of the oh-so-hardcore "Gears of War" series. Have you ever signed on to Xbox Live and played against that bratty, angry, expletive-pumped, Mountain Dew-drinking, homophobic slimeball of a 12-year-old? Have you ever had your behind handed to you by said 12-year-old? Well, Marc Duncan is pretty much that kind of kid. He's needlessly angry, always looking to win (even if it means cheating or exploiting a game's flaws), and always looking to have the very highest gamer score possible. Marc doesn't get along with other kids very well, as he's always quick to point out their flaws and then probably hit them, and he doesn't do so well with sunlight. He drinks a lot of caffeinated beverages, stays up way too late, and says horrible words that even his father has never heard of, but will never repeat. I'd love to say that Marc means well, but he doesn't.
And that's them! This is my latest project, which I've been working on for about a month and a half now, between everything else. I've mostly just been doing some character sketches (there are more characters than this). I acknowledge that some of the designs could use a bit of tweaking, especially in the case of Pac.
Note: I would have posted this this morning, but DA was being stupid with my computer and it wouldn't load the category selection. Blah!
Anyway, let me know your thoughts!

I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P

I especially love the mom and the sister! I can't wait to see more of this stuff!
Well, no one over the age of 17 or 18 can get away with multi-colored hair, at least.
